Low-strain effective Young’s modulus model and validation for multi-layer vocal fold-based silicone specimens with inclusions

چکیده

A model of the effective low-strain elastic Young’s modulus multi-layer stacked composites is proposed, which capable to account for an arbitrary inclusion. Geometrical and discretization-based results are validated against measured moduli (from 10 up 40 kPa) on 14 molded silicone specimens embedding a stiff (298 inclusion with variable size, position, stacking. Specimens without represent muscle, superficial, epithelium layers in human vocal fold between 4 65 kPa. The proposed allows predict influence inclusion, mimicking structural abnormality or pathology somewhere within fold, modulus. Quantifying local stiffening bio-mechanics necessary step toward understanding mitigation pathologies associated voice disorders.

In vivo vocal fold cover layer replacement.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS An animal vocal fold replacement model is needed to investigate treatments for vocal fold scarring. We developed a rabbit surgical model, hypothesizing that orthotopic vocal fold cover implants would attach and survive. We further hypothesized that superficial scarring would be limited, allowing unimpeded vibration. STUDY DESIGN Translational research: animal surgical st...

Influence of vocal fold stiffness and acoustic loading on flow-induced vibration of a single-layer vocal fold model.

The flow-induced vibrations of a single-layer vocal fold model were investigated as a function of vocal fold stiffness, and subglottal and supraglottal acoustic loading. Previously, it was reported that the single-layer vocal fold model failed to vibrate when short, clinically-relevant tracheal tubes were used. Moreover, it was reported that the model had a propensity to be acoustically driven,...

A novel hybrid method for vocal fold pathology diagnosis based on russian language

In this paper, first, an initial feature vector for vocal fold pathology diagnosis is proposed. Then, for optimizing the initial feature vector, a genetic algorithm is proposed. Some experiments are carried out for evaluating and comparing the classification accuracies which are obtained by the use of the different classifiers (ensemble of decision tree, discriminant analysis and K-nearest neig...

Role of gradients in vocal fold elastic modulus on phonation.

New studies show that the elastic properties of the vocal folds (VFs) vary locally. In particular strong gradients exist in the distribution of elastic modulus along the length of the VF ligament, which is an important load-bearing constituent of the VF tissue. There is further evidence that changes in VF health are associated with alterations in modulus gradients. The role of VF modulus gradat...

Comparative evaluation of strain-based and model-based modulus elastography.

Elastography based on strain imaging currently endures mechanical artefacts and limited contrast transfer efficiency. Solving the inverse elasticity problem (IEP) should obviate these difficulties; however, this approach to elastography is often fraught with problems because of the ill-posed nature of the IEP. The aim of the present study was to determine how the quality of modulus elastograms ...
